Announcing T3 Alaska Drone Club

Earn Your FAA Part 107 License & Launch Your Career!

High school students aged 15+ and T3 graduates who are interested in obtaining a FAA Part 107 license with a strong interest in understanding infrastructure, GIS, or environmental monitoring —and pursuing a rewarding career with the Alaska Department of Transportation and Public Facilities (DOT&PF)—are strongly encouraged to participate.

This program provides a dedicated coach for 1-on-1 instruction and support, along with financial aid, to students interested in obtaining a license and taking steps toward a meaningful career with the DOT&PF.

About the Program 

T3 Alaska has established a virtual Drone Club to prepare students to earn the FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, the industry credential required for commercial drone operations. Students receive individualized coaching and structured instruction covering flight terminology, FAA regulations, test preparation strategies, and drone applications relevant to DOT&PF operations.

To reduce barriers to participation, T3 Alaska provides financial assistance for study materials, FAA Part 107 examination fees, and eligible travel expenses. Students who complete the pathway are connected directly with DOT&PF Human Resources and are guaranteed an employment interview, creating a direct connection between credential attainment and career opportunities.

Eligibility & Qualification Requirements

Any T3 participant learner who is eager to gain their FAA Part 107 license may join the Drone Club.

To qualify for this financial assistance to take the FAA Part 107 test, applicants must meet the following criteria:

• T3 Alignment: Must be a current or former T3 Alaska student
• Students should have gotten their UAF T3 Alaska Drone Level 1 & 2 badges or be actively working toward completion
• Must have obtained a related certificate from the T3 Alliance
• Career Focus: Submission of a formal statement detailing your interest in a career with the Alaska Department of Transportation (DOT).
• Professional Endorsements: Provide one (1) letter of recommendation from an instructor, high school counselor, or employer.
• Evidence of practice test scores that demonstrate passing score

Timelines & Opportunities

Drone Club is intended to move cohorts through the learning process each semester. Drone Club is launching in Sept and Jan., but participants can join at any time throughout the school year, given they are motivated to test within the academic year.  

Testing facilities are available in Anchorage, Fairbanks, Juneau, Kodiak, Soldotna, and Bethel.

Studying for and passing the FAA Part 107 drone exam typically requires an estimated time commitment of 10 to 20 hours of total study time spread over two to three weeks.
