Upward Bound/T3 Alaska Students Recognized at the Spirit of Youth Ceremony
Spirit of Youth is dedicated to creating, promoting and recognizing youth involvement in communities across Alaska. Through storytelling, leadership programs, and statewide recognition, the organization uplifts the voices and contributions of young Alaskan’s who are making a positive difference.
Founded in 1997 as a media-based project, Spirit of Youth emerged in response to the growing negative stereotypes of teenagers. Since then, hundreds of positive stories about Alaska youth have spread through television, radio and local and statewide newspapers.
This year, Upward Bound/T3 Alaska students were honored to participate in the Spirit of Youth award ceremony. Wrangell was named runner up in the Humanitarian category for their outstanding work supporting the U.S. Capitol Christmas Tree project. Their efforts to design a hydration system to support the trees journey across the US highlighted the innovation, teamwork and dedication to community and learning.
We are proud to celebrate Ander Edens, who received the 2025 Innovator and Role Model Award for his work with the Anan Wildlife Observatory bear camera project. Another remarkable youth leader, Angel Wager, served as a Spirit of youth Teen Advisor and was actively involved in this year’s ceremony, demonstrating leadership and commitment.
The Spirit of Youth award ceremony was an inspiring evening filled with celebration and community pride. Ander delivered the final speech, a moment that highlighted the importance of supporting youth innovation and leadership. Congratulations to all of the nominees and winners!
