This T3 Alaska Summer Program is a unique 10-day experience combining leadership development, energy education, and digital storytelling, centered around the Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference. Students from select communities across Alaska will enhance communication skills, explore the energy sector, and create professional-quality multimedia stories about their communities’ energy challenges and opportunities. The program aims to develop the next generation of Alaskan innovators, providing students with networking opportunities, technical training with environmental monitoring equipment, in digital media production, and a deeper understanding of Alaska’s energy landscape.

Anchorage Orientation
Ten students will travel from their home communities to Anchorage where they will go though an orientation for the program and settle in at the base of operations at the Anchorage T3 Hub, Kuslivak Career Academy. We will travel to UAA and locations around Anchorage to develop skills in storytelling and using technology. Participants will develop friendships and prepare for the weekend expedition and upcoming week’s workshop and conference.

Weekend Expedition
Students will embark on a weekend field trip to the coastal community of Seward, where they will learn about energy solutions and practice storytelling skills using media equipment. We will stay at the UAF campus facilities, and explore the Seward Sea Life Center as part of the journey.

Energy Vision Workshop
Students will take part in the Energy Vision Workshop, sponsored by the UAF’s Alaska Center for Energy and Power (ACEP), where they will explore energy concepts within their own village communities. This hands-on workshop will introduce energy technologies, including the potential of nuclear solutions, while mapping out current community challenges and opportunities. Students will engage in discussions with industry leaders, offering a fresh, youthful perspective on the intersection of community goals and energy systems. By the end of the workshop, they will develop and present their vision for future energy scenarios using digital storytelling.

Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference
Students will dive into the future of energy at the fourth annual Alaska Sustainable Energy Conference, where they’ll learn from industry leaders about cutting-edge advancements in renewable and nuclear power, energy storage, and transmission. With rising demands from data centers and evolving resource development, students will explore how these changes impact their communities and their future. More than just attendees, they’ll bring a vital youth perspective, asking big questions and challenging leadership to consider the values and priorities of Alaska’s next generation.
