  • News

It’s an exciting moment when student visualize themselves in the university setting and fuel their career passion. Upward Bound sponsors campus tours for students serious about attending post-secondary education. Understanding campus life by experiencing just a few days is an important step as they plan their futures.

Just recently five North Pole High School students took an exciting step toward their post-high school success and toured the UAF campus, imagining themselves as future Nanooks and potential engineers. The tour began in the Upward Bound Math Science office on the third floor of Duckering, where they offer free donuts on Mondays!

Highlights Included:

  • Toured Bunnell Building which houses the College of Business and Security administration, main offices for eCampus, and classroom, lab and office space
  • Making is Learning Lab or The Mill, UAF’s newest makerspace
  • Joseph E. Usibelli Engineering Learning and Innovation Building an amazing modern space for student learning and discovery
  • Rasmuson Library, providing students and staff access to vast resources to promote literacy, maximize access, and center for Arctic researchers
  • Addressed first-generation support networks created through the Student Support Center
  • Learned about campus with sneak peek of the dorms and the Wood Center
  • The tour hit on familiar ground while visiting the University Art Gallery, which had a installation on 3D printed ceramics burned with laser cutter – familiar T3 Alaska and Upward Bound technologies

Student often are interested in challenging themselves with the honors program and the growing popularity of the Study Away Program. This program enable students to spend a summer, semester or year studying abroad or in a different U.S. state, while earning credit toward their UAF degree.
