Fall Student Leadership Conference from October 16-18
We are excited to host this year’s Fall Student Leadership Conference from October 16-18 in Anchorage and Seward!
Part of the agenda is set to explore mariculture and research opportunities in Seward, Alaska, in partnership with the Alutiq Pride Mariculture Institute, Alaska Vocational Technical Center (AVTEC) Marine Program and the Alaska SeaLife Center. Students will be introduced to realistic integration of scientific processes and meaningful collection and analysis. Researchers from the SeeBird project will share their work which can inspire participants to create significant monitoring surveys in their communities and future careers. Researchers will mentor students on sustainable aquaculture practices like seaweed and shellfish farming. These partnerships highlight student experiences in environmental stewardship and economic development.
The event timing and location coincide with the National Fish and Wildlife Society (NFWS) Conference and the Alaska Federation of Natives (AFN) Convention. At the NFWS conference, students will dive into conservation, protection, and enhancement of fish and wildlife resources. Additionally, during the AFN convention, they will learn about the challenges facing our communities and the vital role they play as youth leaders. The convention will feature strategic discussions, powerful keynote speeches, reports from political leaders, expert presentations, and shared stories of resilience, experience, and hope for the future.
Current T3 Alaska and Upward Bound students are encouraged to earn badges and complete fall challenges to qualify for this incredible opportunity.
